A vital security process involving the IllinoisNet and eduroam Wi-Fi networks will be changing due to technical changes beyond the campus’ control. This is a transition process with no security threat or vulnerability.
Who will be affected?
Although this process will occur behind the scenes, this will affect all IllinoisNet and eduroam users who bring their own devices to campus, such as personal laptops, phones, tablets, etc. It will also affect some university-owned or managed devices. Users using university-owned or managed devices will receive a message from their IT department if the renewal is required. Devices connecting to IllinoisNet_Guest will not be affected.
What should I do?
All personal devices and university-owned or managed devices contacted by the IT department should renew their certificate before December 18 by running the JoinNow tool, which will guide you through steps to renew your certificate and reconnect to Illinois Wi-Fi:
- To reconfigure your device for IllinoisNet, visit go.illinois.edu/illinoisnetsetup and follow the setup instructions.
- For IllinoisNet or eduroam users, go to go.illinois.edu/eduroamsetupand follow the setup instructions.
What happens if I don’t do it by Dec. 18?
Devices not renewed by December 18 may begin displaying pop-ups saying that the Wi-Fi cannot be trusted, and it will not connect. We encourage you to renew your certificate before December 18 so that you can prepare for a better start to the spring semester.
Read the Answers KnowledgeBase article to see whether your Wi-Fi certificate is already rewewed.
