Technology Services is dedicated to connecting you to the cloud resources you need for your teaching, research, and learning. The sections below provide information for the three major cloud platforms that Technology Services supports: Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.
Amazon Web Services
Amazon Web Services is a cloud computing platform that offers a variety of services, including: computing, storage, databases, analytics, content delivery, networking, machine learning, and security, identity, and compliance.
Google Cloud Platform
Google Cloud Platform offers a collection of cloud-based services that support a variety of needs on campus, including research, teaching, and administrative operations. It provides tools for data storage, analysis, and application development, focusing on scalability and flexibility
Microsoft Azure
Microsoft Azure is a cloud computing platform and set of services provided by Microsoft. It offers a broad range of tools and solutions for building, deploying, and managing applications and services through Microsoft’s global network of data centers. It supports various programming languages, frameworks, and tools, making it versatile and suitable for many use cases.
Accessing cloud computing platforms
Amazon Web Services
AWS accounts through the university offer an educational discount of 11% off the retail prices listed in the AWS pricing calculator. The university is not charged for network traffic out to the internet (egress waiver) as long as this cost does not exceed 15% of the overall bill.
How do I get access?
When requesting AWS access through Tech Services, you will need a University CFOP and contact info for your billing/business office and IT support staff.
Google Cloud Platform
How do I get access?
When requesting access, you will need a university CFOP, and a monthly budget amount for your project (Google Cloud pricing calculator).
Microsoft Azure
How do I get access?
When requesting Azure access through Technology Services, you will need a university CFOP and a monthly budget amount for your project (Azure pricing calculator).

- All university AWS accounts have enterprise support. Open a case through your AWS account to get direct help from AWS experts.
- Amazon has a library of documentation and user guides for each of the services within AWS.
- Online digital training services from AWS include AWS Educate, AWS Skill Builder, AWS re/Start, and AWS Academy.
Google Cloud Platform Help
- Tech Services has articles and instructions to help you or your IT staff connect GCP with Illinois-specific technologies.
- Google has a library of documentation and user guides for each of the services within GCP.
