Setting up Illinois Email is one of the most important things for new students arriving on campus. To start off on the right foot, there are also a few other vital services to know about before starting the semester:

  • Illinois Email
  • Illinois AnyWare
  • Wi-Fi
  • Canvas
  • IT Service Desk

These five services are imperative for students to know about. Here is how to access them.

Illinois Email

Log into your email by using your university credentials – your NetID and Password – via Outlook. If you just claimed your NetID, it may take up to two hours before your email inbox is ready.

You may configure your Email on iOS by using the Microsoft Exchange feature on Apple Mail, as well as through the Microsoft Outlook app on Android. Learn more at the Answers KnowledgeBase article.

Illinois AnyWare

AnyWare is the virtual desktop designed to support blended and remote learning from anywhere on campus by providing students with secure, high-performance access to over 100 applications.

To access, visit anyware.illinois.edu. A VPN is not required to run the service.

Wi-Fi

There are three wireless networks that serve the campus:

  • IllinoisNet
  • IllinoisNet_Guest
  • Eduroam

IllinoisNet is the main network used by students, faculty, and staff through NetID. Setting up your connection takes about two minutes, and once it is set up, your device will automatically connect to the network.

IllinoisNet_Guest is for temporary guest access to those without a NetID. Connecting is as easy as selecting it on your device’s wireless settings and waiting for the captive portal to open.

Eduroam is part of an international collaborative effort providing connectivity to researchers, teachers, students and staff of institutions worldwide. For Illinois students traveling abroad, you should configure your network before leaving.

Canvas

Canvas is the widely used Learning Management System used by the university. Your courses and assignments can be accessed there.

Visit canvas.illinois.edu and use your NetID to log in.

IT Service Desk

The IT Service Desk provides tech support to students, faculty, and staff surrounding any IT problems you may have. They can answer your questions and help guide you with any technology trouble.

There are two locations on campus providing in-person service:

  • Illini Union, Room 187
  • Digital Computer Lab, Room 1211

You may also email questions and submit tech requests online to get support digitally.
