- Illinois users traveling: Set up Eduroam before you leave and connect with Eduroam if available at destination.
Visitors to Illinois
- Temporary guest access: Set up IllinoisNet_Guest daily.
- Visitors from an Eduroam partner institution: Connect to Eduroam with your home institution’s credentials, or use IllinoisNet_Guest. Contact your home institution for Eduroam support.

- Illinois users traveling: Set up Eduroam before you leave and connect with Eduroam if available at destination.

How to connect to IllinoisNet
For students, faculty, and staff with an active NetID. Takes about 2 minutes.
- You’ll need to download the set up tool, so get a temporary connection first. Use cellular data, or connect to IllinoisNet_Guest temporarily.
- Download and run the setup tool. Go to go.illinois.edu/WiFiSetup. The site detects your device automatically. Click Join Now and follow the prompts.
- Sign in with your NetID. Complete multifactor authentication when prompted.
- Confirm set up is complete. Once you see “Joined…” your device is configured. The setup file can be deleted. Your device will connect to IllinoisNet automatically going forward.
Common questions
I need internet to download the setup tool – What should I do first?
Use cellular data, or connect to IllinoisNet_Guest as a staging network. Once online, open a browser, go to go.illinois.edu/WiFiSetup, and run the SecureW2 tool to configure IllinoisNet.
I don’t have a NetID – How do I get online?
Connect to IllinoisNet_Guest. Select it in your wireless settings and wait for the captive portal to appear. If it doesn’t open automatically, open a browser and go to illinois.edu. Choose Guest Wi-Fi Access, enter your name, phone number, and email address, and register. Access is free and resets each day at 4 a.m. Full guest Wi-Fi guide.
The guest network portal isn’t loading – What should I try?
Select IllinoisNet_Guest in your wireless settings, then open a browser and try to load a website such as illinois.edu to trigger the login screen. If it still doesn’t appear, contact the Technology Services IT Service Desk.
Can I connect a gaming console, smart TV, or other device that can’t run the setup tool?
Yes. Gaming consoles, smart TVs, and similar devices can connect by registering them to your Illinois account. Log in with your NetID at go.illinois.edu/IllinoisNetDevices to add your device. Device setup guide.
I live in the residence halls and nothing is working – Who do I contact?
If you are located in one of the campus residence halls, contact the University Housing Technology group.
