Data center FAQ

Will I still have access to my equipment?

Absolutely. We provide door access utilizing your iCard in all of our locations. You can come and go whenever you need.

How will I be notified if there is a change in the data center?

We send notifications using ONLY Microsoft Teams if there is an event that will impact your service.

Our Data Centers has an on-call number 217-552-8387 to assist you in emergencies after normal work hours. This does not include gaining access for iCard issues.

How secure will my systems be?

All Technology Services Data Center facilities have access control policies and locked doors. Each facility also uses the university’s video surveillance system.

Why move to Technology Services Data Centers?

This is a free service to all university academic, institutes, and central units. We provide a great space to house your hardware and work to free up space for other tasks.

What does it cost, and who is eligible to get it free?

It is free for any university academic, institutes, and central units. All others do incur a per U charge.

Are UPSes available?

UPS power is at all locations.

This is a co-location space where we have an agreement that any work you do within the data center is to your own equipment only. There are times where the staff need to work within your rack but they will not touch your hardware unless they have notified you of their intent.

What cybersecurity is provided?

We use the campus cybersecurity system. We do not have security devices within the spaces but do rely on the Technology Services firewall and security services.

Who will be working on my hardware?

That is up to you. We provide the space, network, power, cooling, and physical security. You and your selected IT provider are responsible for maintaining your hardware.

What kind of equipment can I bring in?

If you are consolidating from another space, you may bring the hardware you have. Any new purchase is expected to be rack mountable moving forward.

What is the turnaround time for installing hardware?

We will notify the client by using the TeamDynamix ticketing system when equipment is installed.

What should you do before submitting ticket(s) for installation?
