Imagine this: It’s the night before a big assignment is due, you’ve just finished the final touches, you’re ready to print it out, but you’re not sure where to go. Or maybe you’re new to campus and can’t figure out how to connect to the Wi-Fi. Sound familiar? Not to worry, U of I has you covered with a variety of technology resources designed to help make your life easier. Here are the five tech resources that every Illini should know. Trust me, you’re going to want to bookmark these before you need them.
1. Illinois AnyWare
Illinois AnyWare is a cloud-based service that helps to give student access to over 100 software applications, including MATLAB, Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office, without having to install them on your personal computer. It comes in handy for the students who either may not have a powerful enough laptop for high-powered services or don’t use these applications enough to need to download them onto their devices. It even works on your phone! To use it, go to anyware.illinois.edu, log in with your NetID, and you’re good to go!
2. Computer labs and printing services
University of Illinois is equipped with computer labs all over campus complete with high performance desktops and printers. Whether your personal computer is acting up, you need to print a last minute paper or you want to use one of the many powerful software on the computers, these labs are a lifesaver. Many are open late or even 24/7 for certain majors. Find a list of locations for printers and computers.
3. Tech Services Help Desk
The Tech Services Help Desk should be your go–to tech support team on campus. They help with everything from Wi-Fi issues to NetID password resets. Whether you need help connecting to IllinoisNet or you’ve been locked out of your account, the Help Desk has your back! Visit them in person at either DCL 1211 or Illini Union Room 187 or for more ease, submit a request online.
4. Illinois app
The official Illinois app helps to keep you connected to all things on campus! Need to check dining hall menus, your class schedule or just need access to your Illini ID? This app keeps everything in one place. It can also send campus alerts, so that you’re never out of the loop. Download it for free on your phone using the App Store or Google Play by simply searching “Illinois App” and clicking download.
5. IllinoisNet
U of I’s high speed campus Wi-Fi network, IllinoisNet, is the key to staying connected seamlessly within buildings. Whether you’re streaming lectures, attending Zoom office hours or just scrolling between classes, a reliable Wi-Fi network is essential. Illinois’ network covers nearly every corner of campus. Connect by selecting “IllinoisNet” on your device and signing in with your NetID and password. For first time setup, learn more to get started on IllinoisNet.
These are just five of the countless tech resources that the University of Illinois has to offer, but they are the ones that you may need the most.
